Comprehensive Information on banks and other financial institutions is provided by a number of sources. Federal regulatory agencies provide a variety of resources for use by the public and have been listed below.
The National Information Center (NIC) provides historical, financial and research information on domestic and foreign banking organizations. Information available at the NIC site is provided by the Federal Reserve Board of Governors.
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation provides banking news, public information, laws and regulations, consumer news, and bank data for federally insured banking organizations.
- Bank Data further provides data on specific institutions, the industry, market share information, studies and surveys, frequently asked questions, as well as other relevant sites.
The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency
(OCC) provides public information on national banks.
- The OCC compiles a searchable Weekly Bulletin which lists by specific category those applications filed by national banks, including, but not limited to: new charters, branches, relocation, mergers, and non-deposit activity.
Selected Interagency Application
forms are available for the following application types: Change in Director or Senior Executive Officer, Change in Control, Biographical and Fianancial Report, and Bank Merger. Forms require the use of the Adobe Acrobat reader.
The Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS) is the primary federal regulator of thrift institutions. The OTS provides such information as industry and institution data, laws and regulations and public information as well as other information relating to the thrift and savings institutions.
National Credit Union Administration provides information on federally insured credit unions, including credit union data and reference information.
The Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) EDGAR Database provides Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis and Retrieval of information and submissions by companies required by law to file forms with the SEC.
West Virginia Labor Market, Deomographic and Census information has been made available by West Virginia Bureau of Employment Programs and West
Virginia University’s Business and Economic Information System.
The Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) was developed to encourage depository institutions help meet the credit needs of the communities in which they operate. The Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC) provides a comprehensive source of information regarding the Community Reinvestment Act as well as an Interagency Search for public CRA ratings.
