    STATE CHARTERED CREDIT UNIONS


    In West Virginia, the Commissioner of Banking is responsible for the supervision and regulation of credit unions incorporated under state law.

    Credit unions are cooperative, nonprofit corporations, incorporated for the purpose of encouraging thrift among members, creating a source of credit at fair and reasonable rates of interest, and providing an opportunity for members to use and control their own money on a democratic basis in order to improve economic and social condition.
